Eye-catching dresses & chairs
Last Thursday (4th June), I decided on the spur of the moment to visit the National Musem for these two exhibitions:
Verner Panton & Christian Lacroix
It was kinda amazing that I met two different friends there! I mean, what are the chances of us going on the same day, same time?
CHRISTIAN LACROIX COSTUMIER
Christian Lacroix's drawings. Even the all-black outfit is full of details.
Right: It seems like over 100 strips of different-coloured fabric were used!
You can see why he's called the Costumier instead of a fashion designer. He designs for operas, musicals, ballets, theatre productions etc.
He really pushes the boundaries in his creative use of different materials. Can you see the tassels of the dress on the right? (Btw, I was quite annoyed by the black mesh that was used to cover like 80% of the mannequins. It shows up in this photo. :S)
I dunno why the mesh doesn't show up here. Anw, close-up of the tassels... Those are huge CURTAIN tassels! Not the kind you see on earrings, necklaces, or even at the edge of the mortarboards (graduation hats). These are much bigger!
Ahh, something more wearable. These can pass off as the gowns of high-society socialites.
2nd from the left is MY FAVOURITE!
And you can totally see why. Love the drapes and colours. ^_^
I love the one on the left too! Sparkly! =D
WOAH. LUXURIOUS. My camera can't capture all the glitter and bling. But how to walk through an ordinary door in this dress??? You've to walk in sideways HAHA.
Left: I LIKEEEE. Purple + black = MYSTERIOUS.
Looks heavy though, all the layers and velvet and heavy fabrics.
Left: I like the combination of masculine blazer and feminine chiffon! And the black pants make it wearable cos the chiffon's too sheer.
Right: This is very wearable too! I can imagine myself wearing this haha... Maybe not in the streets of conservative Sinagpore but in a party or sumth.. but I think I dare to wear it in the streets of New York or Paris!
VERNER PANTON
Panton designed these which can be lowered or raised for people to have "different perspectives". Interesting.
Do you know what this is? My mom couldn't figure out.
Make a guess! ...

It's a chair! Haha.
The gray cushions are the back rest and the seat. I took the photo from an aerial pespective.. Can you imagine the chair now?
THE VERY FAMOUS PANTON CHAIR. Moulded from a single piece of plastic, considered a breathrough in 1960.
Baby Panton chairs! Dunno if you can see it from this weird angle, but the baby blue and pink chairs are half the size of the ordinary ones pictured behind.
Okay, this looks uncomfortabbbbble, even with the green cushion. XS
My cam batt died on me and the last two photos were taken with my friend's phone camera.
I wanted my friend to include the Panton chair I was sitting on in the photo, but it's obviously not captured here. But you can see my awesome contrast-trim schoolgirl blazer! Love it x1000000000000000000000. Will dedicate the next post to this!
There, me in the Panton chair. I swear I didn't take it down from the exhibit, haha. It was an extra for visitors to try sitting on, so I made use of it to take this photo. =)
Taa-daa!
I also wanna visit the Da-Vinci exhibition at the Science Centre and The Kangxi Emperor: Tresures from the Forbidden City exhibition at ACM!
